# Built-in video calls and text transcripts

Every AppSprint sprint room has a built-in video call, so the team does not need a separate meeting link. The call has screen sharing, raise-hand, speaking indicators, noise suppression and background blur. A host or co-host can turn on recording, which stores a text transcript only: no audio, video or screen recording is kept. Calls are peer to peer and work best with about four cameras on.

## What the call includes

- Video and audio in the browser, in the same window as the guided steps
- Screen sharing, with one presenter at a time
- Speaking indicators and raise-hand
- Microphone and speaker device pickers
- Enhanced noise suppression, on by default, which each person can switch off
- Background blur and 3 virtual backgrounds (Office, Dusk and Slate), processed on your own device
- A room-wide chat beside the call, with names shown and messages of up to 500 characters

## How transcripts work

1. **A host or co-host starts recording** Only a host or co-host can start it. The host confirms once, and everyone in the room sees a recording indicator. There is no per-participant opt-in, so tell people before you start.
2. **Each browser sends its own microphone** Each person's browser uploads short chunks of their own microphone audio for transcription. Speakers are labelled from each participant's identity in the room, not by voice analysis. A muted microphone is not transcribed.
3. **Only the text is kept** AppSprint stores the transcript text. It does not store audio, video or screen recordings.
4. **Notes and downloads** AI meeting notes are written from the transcript. Notes save as a .md file and the transcript as a .txt file. Meeting records sit in the room, require sign-in to view, and a room keeps up to 50 of them.

## Where the transcript is used, and where it is not

The transcript feeds the meeting notes and the private "Ask for help" assistant. It is left out of the build brief (PRD), the handoff package and the [session summary](https://appsprint.team/features/session-summary-and-handoff) download, which are built from confirmed decisions and the final prototype.

## Limits worth knowing

- **Group size.** Calls are peer to peer. There is no enforced cap, but video quality drops automatically at four or more callers, and calls work best with about four cameras on.
- **Browsers.** Blur and virtual backgrounds work only in Chrome and Edge.
- **Cost.** Transcription is billed in AI credits, which the host pays. Credits are needed only for AI features. See [pricing](https://appsprint.team/pricing).
- **Expert guests** in the Full Product Sprint can join the call with microphone, camera and raise-hand, but cannot share a screen.

The call is built into the sprint room, not into a particular step. **Do we need a separate video meeting tool to run an AppSprint session?**
