Comparison

AppSprint vs Mural for design sprints

Mural is a visual collaboration canvas with a facilitation emphasis: design sprint templates, a timer, anonymous voting and a private mode, run by a facilitator on an open board. AppSprint is a guided sprint room. It walks a team through fixed, timed steps, keeps ideas and votes anonymous, builds working prototypes with AI and collects tester feedback. Choose Mural for flexible, facilitator-led canvas work, and AppSprint when the session should end in a decision and a clickable prototype.

Where Mural is the better choice

  • You have an experienced facilitator who wants to shape the agenda. Mural lists facilitator features such as locking content, keeping outline steps hidden until needed, and summoning everyone to one part of the canvas
  • You want to follow the classic format closely. Mural's official design sprint template is credited to Steph Cruchon, Jake Knapp, John Zeratsky and Jackie Colburn
  • You want basic facilitation tools without paying. Mural's pricing page lists the timer, anonymous voting and private mode on every plan
  • You need an open canvas for maps, diagrams and research that outlives the sprint
  • You are running a large workshop. AppSprint's built-in calls work best with about four cameras on
  • You need your workshop tool to connect to other software. AppSprint has no integrations today

Where AppSprint is the better choice

  • Nobody on the team is a trained facilitator. The room sets the order and the timing, and the optional Sprint Coach explains each step
  • You want a working prototype by the end. Each person describes an idea, the AI builds it, and the team picks one to improve in Refine Together
  • You want anonymity as the default. Notes, ballots and review dots carry no names. See anonymous ideas and private voting
  • You want the call in the same place as the work. Video calls are built into the room
  • You want to test with users straight away. The Full and Focused sprints include a feedback form for each prototype
  • Clients and guests are joining. Pricing is not per seat, and teammates join from a link without an account

Using both

The two fit together. A team can keep research, journey maps and long-lived planning in Mural, then run the decision and the prototype in AppSprint. What comes out of AppSprint is files and links: a runnable prototype, a session summary and, in the Full and Focused sprints, a Markdown build brief. Those can be attached to a mural afterwards.

Questions and answers

Is AppSprint a Mural alternative?

For one job: running a product or design sprint that ends in a prototype. AppSprint is not a whiteboard and does not replace Mural for mapping, diagramming or open workshops that need a free-form canvas.

Does Mural have a design sprint template?

Yes. Mural publishes design sprint templates, including one it calls the official design sprint template. The template gives you the board; a facilitator runs the timing, the votes and the hand-offs between exercises.

Does Mural have anonymous voting?

Yes. Mural's pricing page lists anonymous voting, a timer and private mode on every plan, including Free. AppSprint also keeps ballots private on its free plan. In AppSprint each vote is a step in the guided session, so nobody has to set it up.

Which costs less for a team of eight?

It depends on how much AI you use. AppSprint does not charge per person: the collaboration tools are free and the host buys AI credits. Mural's paid plans are priced per member. Check AppSprint pricing and Mural's pricing page for current numbers.
